Personal Development Summary

At the beginning of fourth year I had only created two videos previously; a title sequence in second year and an experimental video in third year which was the inspiration for this project. It was a risk taking on a video based project for fourth year having very little experience but I knew that video production was what I wanted to do as future career- and still do. The experimental video in third year was the first module out of the three years that I genuinely passionate about and it didn't feel like work, I enjoyed every part of the process, from the concept, pre production, filming and editing.

Filming and cinematography

When I started fourth year, my videos were below average in regards to understanding how to make an interesting and engaging video. I have experimented and therefore learned about the power in using different camera shot/ angles, camera movement, location, composition, lighting etc. These techniques developed naturally through comparing my videos to videos that I watch and artists work that I was looking into for the literature review. An example of one of my videos that didn’t have enough location, camera angles, movement and well lit is “Dee and Scope- I’m done”. This was through lack of time as the two boys lived in Glasgow and so I only had one day to shoot everything for the video. This put a cap on how much I could capture and if I had more time I would have taken more time to light the green screen better so it would have been easier to edit, I would have shot at least another 2 more locations and used a dolly for camera movement.
Learning how to set up my camera and how to prepare for a shoot has also been important. I have learned to take more time finding the right composition in the shot and not rushing into filming.

Premier Pro and After Effects

When I first started fourth year, I had never even opened Premiere Pro or After Effects.  I feel that my editing skills have been the most significant and greatest learning curve. I used to have to google “how to cut a clip in premiere pro” which was soul destroying and frustrating. But through trial and error and the help of tutorials I have came out the other end with a vast knowledge of both. Through learning the software from scratch I am most importantly efficient with time. I don’t have to spend hours trying to figure how to do something and because of that I can get more done. Understanding and learning the software has improved the quality of my footage and I now understand the techniques that can be applied to raw footage to adjust to make more professional and of a greater quality. As Colour is an important part of my project it was very important to understand how to alter and control colour within my videos.

The Construction of videos

Doing “Visual music” as my project has made me significantly more aware of music and the power it can have.  When exploring the field of visual music, I very quickly became aware that it was not just artists who specified specifically in visual music but that the relationship between music and visuals is everywhere from music videos, tv adverts, installations, title sequences, live performances etc.  Having this in depth knowledge of visuals and music will hopefully improve the way in which I construct visuals in future and I will never throw in a piece of music at the end without putting considerable though as to how the aesthetics of the two work together.

What can I take away  for my project “Visualising Music”?
Not only have I learned a significant amount about the history, current artists and the construction of visuals for visualising music. I have a great knowledge about the relationship that visuals and music have together which I hope will give me a great advantage when going into video production. I have learned so many transferable skills that can be applied to any future jobs.
Musical and visual characteristics have taught me so many valuable lessons from timing, dynamics, repetition, rhythm, tone etc. All these characteristics can be used in any video and by learning significantly about how to use them and how to reflect on the music I have taken on a whole new outlook on constructing my videos.
One of the best personal outcomes from this project is being able to critically evaluate and analyse my own work through the development of the critical framework which assessed the case studies , practise based research and finally my own work.

What could I learn in the future?
Even though my editing skills have gone from basically nonexistent to being able to edit confidently and efficiently I still have a lot more I can learn to produce higher standard and more professional videos.  In regards to filming and cinematography, camera movement has been my weakest area but that has more to do with the equipment than my ability to do it. I plan on buying a dolly for my tripod which will give me freer and smoother movements.
Finally, I am very proud of what I have learned in the span of 9 months. This project has produced my biggest learning curve in video production to date and with further development, learning and the right guidance I will hopefully achieve in getting a job that I want.

FINAL VIDEO

Well it has been a long year but finally here is the final version of the video. The last edit was very close. But there was a few edits I made where I wasnt quite 100% happy with. I edited from 1:10- 1:33 ish as I felt It wasnt as dynamic as the music and it needed something more to make it as dynamic as the music. I added zooms on the accentuated parts! I also added some more small glitches to the end which I had forgot to add it previously

LENTICUAL CARDS ARRIVEDDDD

They arrived, I am SO SO happy with them, they look super awesome!!!!

I also got some cool glasses, they do some weird stuff, think I might mess around with these over my camera and film some stuff after coursework submission ....trippy!

Meeting with Daivd

FINALLY he loves it, he even high fived me......YES! I am so happy, I have been working so so hard this week to make the video really good and it has finally paid off. So no more video! (and to be honest I am a wee bit glad) I have been editing to the same one song for nearly 6 weeks, but the hard work has finally paid off!

2nd Edit

Well like I said, David didnt like the middle of the video so here is the re-edited 2nd version. Lets hope he likes it a little bit more than last time! I personally really think the middle abstract part looks so so much better than the 1st take. I think it makes the sound more interesting as its the least exciting part of the whole song, So I think the abstract visuals add a more engaging element to it.

Further abstract testing

This was made from rice and the ocean. I really like the lightness of the video as it reflects well on the tone of the sound at that point.

Abstract testing

Well since I am going to go down the more abstract footage for the middle part. I have done some wee tests as I think I have to be really careful to what I add. I done want to take away from the nice vintage tone of the piano footage, but I dont want to play it too safe at the same time. So I am going to focus on colour and timing for this part and make sure they are correct and I think it should look good! The first part I am testing is from 1:10-1:33 ish, the side videos are very boring and dont have very much movement so I am going to try and add some more movement but not too much to take away from the center video

The video Below is the origonal section that needs to be changed.

Other business cards

Ok so I said I would get other business cards printed, so here is my design, I wanted it to be in keeping with my other ones.

Playing around with composition

Media tests exploring different compositions for the main video for the abstract middle.

Changing the footage of the video around

After having a talk with david about my first full video. Even though he said it still needed a lot more work on, one part he did really like was on the side videos and not the main, he sugested that I moved it to the main video, and i am glad i took his advice. It looks so much better on the main video as it follows the direction of the music better

Meeting with Daivd

Oh deer, today didnt go too well. Daivd really didnt like the middle part of my video. and to be fair, I dont really like it either, so it was good that someone gave me the kick up the butt to change it. I need to go more abstract in the middle as like david said "the middle bit of the song is very boring" So i need to make crazy visuals to liven it up!

Business Cards

Well, I've been doing a lot of thinking about the exposition recently, and I noticed everyone else business card designs and saw them putting their work on them. Dont get me wrong they look amazing but it got me thinking, how can I make a good first impression and make me stand out! I cant exactly put a video on paper!! So I started thinking along the lines of holographic and lenticular...after doing a few days of research, I started to notice something missing...THE PRICE! I could not for the life of me find a price for say 100 lenticular business cards, all websites said to give them a call. So I started doing the rounds and calling, after a few unsuccessful calls, I phone this company called 3d images and I spoke to the owner, David. at first I asked how much would 100 lenticular business cards would cost...to which he replied, 2-3 pounds EACH, so that would be around 300 quid...so I told him about me and that im a student trying to stand out and lo behold, he said that he always tries to help students out and that he would do me 10 for £25. Now I know 10 isnt a lot so my plan is to only give these ones out to potential employers who actually seem interested. I will print simple business cards too. He told me to send him two images. Here are the original ones that I sent him.

He then emailed me back saying the second image, the parts were too small for lenticular printing so below are the final copy.

Second TV testing

Well today was a lot more successful than last week. We didnt use the laptop as Raz had an idea of using a DVD splitter that can send the DVD signal out to two of the TVs that are going to be the same. We didnt get the timing exactly right but it was less than a second out. What we are going to try next is using the same DVD players because the load/play times were slightly different because of the different makes/ages of the DVD players.

1st Complete edit

Ok so here it is, the first complete edit. I so glad to have it full all the way through, but it is nowhere near finished yet. I am really not too keen on the middle section but I will wait and see what David has to say and get him opinion on it.

Film day take TWO

After re-evaluating my work, I realized that I needed more footage. so today I went and did some more testing. This time, I wanted to get some different angles and I took in lots of little LED lights to experiment with on the hammers and strings. As I really like the accidental light video that I took and wanted to make more!

Meeting with Daivd

Didnt have a meeting with Daivd last week as I wanted to keep working on my final video and get more done for him to look at. So far I have 1:30 completed of all 3 videos. As I had a media tests on monday. He said it is improving, but I think I need to wow him with the final thing!

Tuesday, 23 April 2013

Testing on the TV's!!!!!

Today is TV testing day! Well it was a bit of a disaster. But its best to try these things out before the showcase or it would have went very wrong. We used 3 different tvs attached to 3 different DVD players, complete chaos!!! The timing were completely off  So after discussing, for next week we are going to test them out on a laptop and hopefully get some sort of software that can play all 3 videos at the same time.

Middle tests

Tests for the middle part of the song that is quite abstract.

Saturday, 20 April 2013

So far..1:30

Ok, so far I have to 1:30 of my video, this is so I can test out the multiple screens on Monday, I am not sure, there obviously still needs a lot of work done to the final video, but I will just keep on chipping away and will get there :)

Friday, 19 April 2013

Testing effects

I just wanted to play around with settings and see if I could alter the look of the video! These tests/effects were dismissed as I felt it took away from the over all aesthetic by over complication and making the footage look tacky

Thursday, 18 April 2013

Playing around with Colour

Well at my last meeting David mentioned to me about implementing colour so here are some tests to experiment with the level of colour that should be seen ... The colour has been taken from Louis Castle's colour theory, I did a media test about a month ago on Fur Elise and I really like it!

After testing I think the lowest colour test works best as I dont want it to look like just filters layered on top of the footage

The block colours on their own

The main glitch-Partical shower

This is the main glitch that will happen on the side tvs, I am really happy with how it turned out..well in comparison to the particle tests, they look really good!

Interactive music video

http://donottouch.org/?fb_action_ids=10152758234215230&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=aggregation&fb_aggregation_id=288381481237582

This is something, everyone should have a look at. Basically, it is an interactive music video in which your cursor movements are recorded. I know its not exactly visualising music, but I could help but post it on my blog because its video ideas like this that turn viral and get a lot of attention so its a video to learn from!

P.S 80% of people did touch the model!

First wee test of the 3 tvs

This is just a wee test to see how the videos look together. It is really hard to work on videos when you can see what is on the other screen at the same time. So it is important to keep on doing tests like this to make sure the footage works well together.

Natural piano effect test

This is a test to try out my idea of using the piano footage for the effects instead of making computerized ones. I LOVE how it turned out. This footage used was actually taken while I was moving the camera into a different position and I loved how the light look like it was "licking" (like the sound at that time). I think aesthetically it is a million times better that the particle effects I did a few days ago

Friday, 12 April 2013

Particle Testing

well today I have testing out more particle and glitch effect tests. I really dont like them. No matter how much I tried they looked awful and didnt compliment the aesthetic of the piano footage. So what I have decided that would look better and would work a lot better with the old textural aesthetic of the pianos, is to use...the piano footage with some clever editing!

Meeting with Daivd

Well today Daivd got to see the first part of my final video, the first 30 seconds. On first watch he wasnt sure, but he watched it another 3 times and then decided that the more times he watched it the more he liked it. I also sent the link to Belinda and she said she loved it, so I guess it is just a matter of opinion but i'll keep working on it and hopefully he will start to like it!

Real Ones - Separation Blues

So I came across this music video recently and I think it is just fantastic. I love there are just little hints of visualising the actual song ie the cd racks moving up and down and the milk moving up and down for example. But what its fantastic is how they have visualised the words. Yes the have to the exact word but they have done it such a fun and creative way that it that it is not boring. Lets not forget that one of the first music videos of Bob Dylan holding up cards with the words on it, and look what happened to that! what I think this video shows is that visualising music doesnt have to be every beat has a visual equivalent, they have done it very subtly, its not the main focus but it adds character and light heartedness!

Sunday, 7 April 2013

Updated version

Well after having a night to sleep on it I decided the ending was too quick. I couldnt lengthen the song anymore as I am already a few seconds over the 30 sec limit, but the visuals just snapped off too quickly and I wanted the hands to come away and completely off the piano so added a new clip in that was a bit long in length.

30 sec clip for showreel video

Well we were all told to create a 30 sec clip for the showreel by the 8th and I finished mines last night. This has also been a really good experience to see how my final video might work out. I have learned a lot about what I think works and what doesnt. One thing that Belinda pointed out that all the videos I have been recently been making are exactly to the beat and everything is exactly on point. So what I wanted to do with this video is to create a fun and playful feeling with the piano footage. Empathising that when you play piano it is in the view of the player and it sometimes doesnt have to be exact.Where as the computerised glitchy parts in the video are exactly time and exactly on point which is coherent with the formal computer, gets nothing wrong feeling. This idea of having two contrasting sets of timing came from watching the ipod "bounce" advert which you can look at a few blog posts down. What I really liked about the video was that the ipods bounced to the bass of the beat but everything else in the song was free? the visuals only followed one element of the song and it worked really well, so thats where the idea came from.

NEON

Well I have some exciting news! I have been asked to help out with the organisation of neon this year. As you saw from my blog at the beginning of fourth year I went to most of last years events as they related to my project. So I am really excited to be involved this year round. I will probably be involved with the promotional videos and advertising....exciting :D

Meeting with David

Todays meeting was more of me telling David what I was doing and his with a big grin on his face eager to see my videos.... I dont really know what else to say? He really likes the work that I am doing and really excited to see what my final outcome will be! Next week I defiently need to get my learning contract and get my diary sheets signed off

Film day!

Well after a lot of phoning around and asking numerous amounts of people, I finally got a hold of pianos to film. The lovely lady at Vintage strings along perth road let me film in her shop. She had a hug amount of pianos and even took the entire front of the piano off so I could see all the working parts fully. I also filmed the grand piano but even though it looked really good there wasnt as many moving parts in comparison to the stand up piano

Audio spectrum tests

Since I am wanting to go with this idea of organic and playful piano visuals in contrast to computerized accurate visuals. I followed a tutorial that you could apply your song to visuals so it would work with the song. I followed the tutorial exactly and the first one is a direct copy but then I began to experiment with the footage and got some really cool effects.

Thursday, 28 March 2013

Intro test

When I was looking for online tutorials for my glitching ideas I came across this tutorial and thought it would be a good idea so have a cool animation that I can put in front of all my videos, so here it is! not the finished article but I am quite pleased for my first attempt!

You can get the sound from here: http://www.freesound.org/people/Glaneur%20de%20sons/sounds/34172/

Meeting with David

Well another meeting with David. We talked about my final project and where I was going to go with it. I am currently thinking about filming the insides of a piano, but filming it so it doenst look like the insides of a piano, but you get the movement from it? if that makes sense? David offered that he has a piano at his house that I could film if I couldnt find any. I will phone music studios tomorrow and see if they can let me film one of theirs if they have any.

Russ Chimes - Turn Me Out

I have just came across this music video. WOW I really love the use of colour as well as the movement. It kind of makes me wish that I could have found this before I did my hands and feet video to say it was inspiration.. but ahh well. I love the use of the hand gestures and the repetition. Even though it is a dance song the set and location has a not very night club atmosphere but I really like that, its a nice contrast. I love the us of the bold colours also. I think it really compliments the overall tone of the video.

British science association- kids day

Well last thursday I went along to Charleston Community centre with the BSA for a kids science event. It was very fun but a wee bit stressful, working with kids and a camera isnt the easiest of things as they tended to focus more on me than the actual workshop but anyways, it was roughly an 1.5 hours long and the problem was because all 3 workshops were in the same big room, the sound was so echo-y and you couldnt hear each individual person speak clear enough so what I have done, is taken all the best bits ( and the parts where the kids are playing up too much to the camera) and added some music. I think it worked so much better than showing the entire 1.5 hours, because lets be honest who is really going to sit through it all? Have a look here :)

Filmg competition- awards night

Well I have had a few days off uni work as I was in Glasgow for the awards ceremony of filmg. It was a fantastic night! It started off at 6.30 with drinks reception and lots of free champagne which a student like me LOVES! Then we were taken into the main room and sat down at table 12. The awards started off with the childrens awards then on to the adults. I was sat next to a lady that works for the BBC but I didnt get a chance to really speak to her as the awards were on, but I give her my business card and she said that she would contact me. My award was the last to be announced and unfortunately I didnt win... but all was not lost, I got a special mention award and got to go up to the stage and accept and got my picture taken. Getting my work screen on a huge wall with the room full of bbc producers and lots of other important folk was the most important part of the night.

Can you tell it was hot in there?

Awful picture! jeeeze!

Glitch testing

I wanted to play around with glitches with footage behind it. I just used random previous footage I have not filmed the footage that I need for my final video yet. That will be coming veryyyyy soon!

As you can see here from these 3 media tests, I have experimented with different levels of glitches as well as different types of glitches

Meeting with Daivd

Well in todays meeting I was discussing my final video with Yanns song. Ive been doing some media tests too. He is always very happy with the work I get up to! So I will just keep going! For next week Im going to refine some more ideas.

Tuesday, 19 March 2013

Media tests from tutorials and new knowledge

Here are a mixture of tests that I created as a result of following and watching the previous youtube tutorials. I learned some really good tips on how to create static, but as you can see, because the clips are only 5 seconds long and I exported them as a windows media file, the end result wasnt what I had actually created. So I had to export them in avi or quicktime.

Monday, 18 March 2013

Glitch and static tutorials

Today is time to expand my mind a little further, for my final video I want to experiment with computerized glitches to visualize the abstract sounds in the song. Here are some tutorials that I have been looking into today!

Saturday, 16 March 2013

MINDMAP!

Here is a little mind map following on from yesterdays words of what I visualized

Listening and visualizing yanns song

So to get the ball rolling with Yanns song, I thought the first thing I would do is sit down, close my eyes, listen to the song and write down note and things that I feel/visualize about the song. Hear is what I first wrote, Its all mixed and wrote down fast but these are the first feelings I got from the song

A mixture o simple video with wacky abstract footage and editing

Its like a virus taking over the song and video

Some apple adverts that relate to my project

Since doing my hands and feet video, and looking at the apple advert, I started looking at other apple adverts and I found two that I was really really impressed with how they combined visuals and music and how well they worked together

WOW! This advert is amazing in relation to my project. the video is dynamic, fun and exciting, I could quite easily go on. The way this advert has been created is utterly amazing. The way the ipods move and bounce and split with the music is just great. The way in which the audio and visuals connect on this level just makes the advert so much more engaging and attractive to watch

I love how the use colour like with what I kind of did in my video for "fur elise" The classical piano playing in the background and the ever changing and moving around colours on the ipad covers is just beautiful and how they move and change in time with the music makes the transitions effortless.

Crit week- last ever!

Here is the link to my last ever crit presentation!

http://prezi.com/idoazcws3jls/amy-warnock-progress-crit/

Well my presentation well very very well, I was a lot more confident than my pitch presentation as I was a little bit unsure of what I was going to do for my final piece and what song I was going to do, that was the biggest concern. But its all coming together now and so I was not very nervous.

First of all I explained how I was in a bit of a rut and was struggling to find songs and that was getting me down a little bit. So I showed them all the work and media tests I have been doing for uni which have ranged in styles and ideas significantly but it got the ball rolling and I finally produced some pieces that I was really happy with and inspired to get on with my final project.

I then went on to say how I emailed Yann Seznec on the off chance that he might have a song that I could use again ( he gave me the music for my 3rd year project) and he came up with a BELTER. It has really inspired me to get moving and I can wait to start filming and visualizing his song. Since I only got it yesterday Ive not really had time to put much thought into it so keep tuned for my ideas ;)

For the questions, well there wasnt really many, all four lecturers pretty much just complemented and praised me for the videos that I had done in the space of 4 weeks.( not being big headed, that actually happened) One thing Belinda did say though that she thinks that I am focusing too much on visualizing every singly beat, which is true, I totally agree with her, especially with my hands and feet video, there is a visual representation to every single beat. So I  need to go and think about that, as it could look a bit anal? like a bit too technical and computerized which I dont want it to look like at all.

Tuesday, 12 March 2013

I HAVE A SONG

I could not be happier right now, especially as its crit week tomorrow and I wasnt looking forward to saying I didnt have a song yet! Yann Seznec has gave me another song that I think will work PERFECTLY for my final piece, its layers/textural and it kind of mashes up in the middle and theres some really cool/weird sounds that I could have a lot of fun experimenting with. What I really like it the song builds up the layers and develops as the song progresses, which is what I really wanted and wasnt finding in other songs that I liked anyway, have a listen to it here on this video and this is the email Yann sent to me telling me about the song, how it was made, why he made it etc.... I will talk more about it soon but just now, I have to focus on my presentation which is tomorrow!

The song was built originally out of a loop of a field recording of a banjo player from the Appalachian Mountains. The opening sample is just one note from that recording. In the quieter middle bit the sample gets a longer and you can hear the guy singing.

I basically built the song by making a long loop of that sample, and then sitting with a piano and improvising over it a few dozen takes of a couple minutes each. I think mixed and layered all of those different improvisations on top of each other, and using that to create the structure of the piece.

The final piece of the song was the bass, which I created using a Korg MS-20 Analog Synth, which is a beautiful machine from the 70's that I had access to at the University of Edinburgh. You can make it really growl or be lovely and gentle.

But the main focus of the song is definitely all of the piano bits. The song was the result of some playing around I had been doing with taking acoustic piano sounds and mangling them up electronically…so the song is really about having a conversation with myself, building a relationship with your own past, and creating something out of many different aspects and approaches to one thing. That's why it's called EarthFireWindWaterHeart, which is of course a cheeky and joking reference to Captain Planet.

Crit week 1st-3rd years

And how did crit week come round so quick again? ahh well it always happens! anyway here is a summary of what my 1st-3rd years have been up to, how they have been progressing and advice help I could give to them.

Madison

For Madison's professional practice there was a significant and it was evident in her work that her team have been working well together as they found a problem with the way that the art was being made and how it fitted in with the build. Since then Madison has refine and iterated her title designs so aesthetically they are a lot better. For her communications and interaction her interactive piece is coming well together. I suggested that she could an extra element to her interactivity by integrating sound into her project so that it could be used by more people and it would probably get her some extra brownie points. For innovation and specialization this is the module that she really has to work on. She is looking into how lighting effects environments and i suggested, if she is stuck in a bit of a rut, just go out and take pictures, play around with different lighting in her room, use all sorts of stuff, but just do something as usually just getting stuck in and doing something generates ideas better than sitting stuck.

Lewis

For lewis's personal project he is the graphic and U.I designer. The group had a bit of problem with their clients as they didnt like they way they were creating the game. It is upsetting when that happens, but they are focusing on a new direction that the client are happy with and I hope they get back on track, but in regards to lewis's contribution he is doing well and producing lots of ideas. For innovation and specialization, like i mentioned in pitch he was very much inspired with what I was doing last year and he too is looking into the relationship between audio and visuals. He showed some of his videos that he has been working on and I asked him, what are you wanting to do, are you wanting to visualize the music or just have visuals that aesthetically go well with the audio. I think he needs to figure that out and he will have a better idea with what he is doing as he was pretty stuck with his idea.

Dale

For communications and interaction, Dale is using youtube as his platform for his interactive story. Its quite a clever idea and he is not confident in flash and programming which is understandable as not many vis coms are and I think that effects our grades sometimes as we cant do what we actually want to. Anyways I asked hims how he is going to use youtube to play out his story and he will use different videos to link the story together with embedding them into each other. For innovation and specialization he is carrying on with his logos. He is progressing well with lots of research to underpin his work. For professional project, Dale is the graphic designer. He has currently been focusing on the start screens and buttons which he showed us and they have already been integrated into the game. They are looking very good and work well with the art from the other artists so they are obviously working closely so that the over all art is the same style.

Sophie

For trans media- This is the module that she didnt have the brief for on pitch and has just got a week ago, so she hasnt really had time to get into it yet. She was thinking about doing some sort of real life interaction like projections in someones house of their memories. I suggested that she go look at some bear 71 which is an interactive documentary about bears and their habitat. For entertainment design, she is still having some problems getting in contact which is worrying but as long as she had done a decent amount of work, her grade shouldnt be effected. She has created a start screen and animation which is looking really good. For information design, sophie has stuck with her coffee idea and she has produced a really nice set of information based posters that looked really good!

DUN DUN DUN DUN

From filming my Fur elise, colour film, I was really inspired to carry on that idea. I was thinking about doing a really famous song that everyone knows and trying to add new and different visuals to it. That idea has now went out the window but I still wanted to give it a go in a media test so here it is!

Similar adverts/videos to my hands and feet video

Well since doing the hands and feet video, I admititly didnt do very much research for that video. I literally just went with what I visualized in my head when I first heard the song. I think that even though its not the conventional way to create things especially at uni but I thought what the hell, lets just do it. I thought it tied in nicely with synthesia that I was talking about in first semester so I would give seeing what I heard a try! So Im doing a little bit of backwards research and having a look at videos in the past that are similar to mine and how they have approached the visuals to the song.

1. The Superbad (2007)- title sequence

Firstly, the song and visuals have the same era feel, vintage and funky. The use of repetition is similar to what I created at the end of my video with the wiggly arms. The use of block colour and outlines work well with the tone of the song.

2. The ipod adverts (not sure on the date)

These adverts were so well received, I remember everyone talking about them and looking back on them, they are still fresh and fun as when I first saw the adverts. The visuals work very good with the songs and I think it was just such a simple idea of people dancing to the songs but with this really fresh and edgy graphical style to it.

Actually no thats a lie

I just watched my footage over again of the hands and feet and I really dont like the hands that cross over each other at 0.45 sec in so I changed it and it looks a lot better, take a look at it here:

Totally enormous extinct dinosaurs- My media test from Amy Warnock on Vimeo.

(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBRHYNf2hLo ) incase the one above doesnt work

Also here is a video to show my work, as you can see every single arm/limb has been placed by hand, no effect or anything, it took 2 days of hardcore editing and a lot of patience

Hands and feet final edit

Well I have finally finished this media test, and I am so so happy with the results. The visuals work so well with the music and it is exactly how I visualized it in my head!

Take a look at the final result here (cant embed due to stupid copyright) :(

Hands and feet first edit

Well thats me completely finished the video through to 1 minute as I feel thats long enough for a media test and I can display my idea in that time. It has taken a long time to get all the timing right, but I think it will be worth it. Point to note is that I will be taking out the "talking" hand near the end when the guy speaks, I think it takes away from the video, and its too cheesy..

also I cant embed the video due to copyright reasons of the song which is a pain in the BUTT and which is why I shall never be using a copyrighted song for my final, it is totally spoiling everything!

So now after watching the video back, I am going to re-arrange everything so it looks nice, and I think its too bland just in black and white so Im going to add colour in relation to Louis Castle's theory.

Hands and feet video

Well I managed to get the first 15 sec-ish edited tonight, I havent put the footage in the right footage, they are just on top of each other, I am working on the timing first!

Meeting with David

Well, another meeting with David gone. I talked to him about my media test, my green screen hand and feet idea as well as my fur elise video. I also showed him my salt crystal tests.

Hands and feet video

I finally did it! I have been wanting to do this video for so so long, I have had this idea since last semester and I have finally shot it. I had a meeting with david today and I took in my camera stuff on the off chance that the green screen room was free...and it was! So here are a few snapshots of me doing different posses, I  was just experimenting with different movements in front of the camera! I will probably edit some of it tonight and see where I get!

Getting the ball moving

I've really been struggling the past week or so to get motivated and inspired? It's kind of put me down in the dumps so I decided, enough is enough.."lets just do SOMETHING" So I took my camera into work (I work in a kitchen) and I filmed things in the kitchen and I am really happy with these little media tests. They work well with the music. and who would know what they are (one is chips in a fryer)

What I really like about the last two videos is that even though visually they are exactly the same, the music completely changes the atmosphere of the film....very interesting.

No rest for the wicked...

Well I dont half make things hard for myself. I had a staff meeting at work last Wednesday and we were talking about the new menus and I (stupidly) suggested that I could make them, so that is what I have been doing this weekend. Well it is good personal development and also good money andddd good for my CV for actual client based work so meh..... I had to keep the logo as that is what is on the front of the hotel which was bad to start off with as the logo is HORRIBLE. So I pretty much had to work around that using colours from it and ones that looked nice with it.. So here is the menu before and then after, the one I have done.

p.s the prices still need to be added and pictures from the hotel added, but I am still waiting for them
