Well I had a chat with David today as I missed him yesterday and I told him about my predicament and he told me about a box of cds in the whitespace that are copyright free. So I went down and had a rummage and this is what I came back with... so this is my job for the day!

Meeting with Belinda
I unfortuanlly missed David this morning as I had a doctors appointment, but I went into uni just so I could still have a meeting-ish and luckily Belinda was there so I had a chat with her. So my agenda last week was to find my final song. But I was struggling to find a song, dont get me wrong, theres lots of songs that I could use but I was in a little bit of a mixed mind.
1. I want to take a really famous orchestral song that everyone knows and associates a particular thing with like "bolero" with ice skating and make a new set of visuals that completely changes that.
2. I had two songs that I really like these two:

2. I had two songs that I really like these two:
My only problem with using these songs is I wouldnt be able to do anything with my installation after uni because of the copyright. I just really love the textural elements to both the songs.
3. Find a song that doesnt have any copyright.... Im still working on finding one that would be suitable. I have emailed Yann Seznec that gave me the song for my final 3rd piece in the hope that he might have something and I have also emailed some local bands and orchestras. We will just have to wait and see!
So this is pretty much what I talked to Belinda about and she can see my predicament so what I have decided to do is not pick one song at this moment in time but to pick a few and then do a few sets of visuals and do a ton of media tests which will hopefully help my thought process

Clavilux 2000 - Interactive instrument for generative music visualization
I have just came across this beautiful piece of visual music. I love the reference to the color organ (previously discussed in 1st semester and lit review) and through just the use of colour it has been created, no fancy frills. just lines of colour representing each note, the length they are played and the pressure in which they are played. Here is the description for a better understanding:
Clavilux 2000 - Interactive instrument for generative music visualization from Jonas Heuer on Vimeo.
"The Clavilux 2000 is an interactive instrument for generative music visualization, which is able to generate a live visualization of any music played on a digital piano. The setting of the installation consists of three parts: A digital piano with 88 keys and midi output, a computer running a vvvv patch and a vertical projection above the keyboard.
For every note played on the keyboard a new visual element appears in form of a stripe, which follows in its dimensions, position and speed the way the particular key was stroke. Colours give the viewer and listener an impression of the harmonic relations: Each key has it's own color scheme and "wrong" notes stand out in contrasting colors.
All stripes stay and overlap each other in an additive way, so at the end a kind of pattern remains – a summary of the music – which will be always unique since the notes of the composition aswell as the interpretation of the piano player are influencing the outcome. Furthermore the piano player can switch between the standart 2d view and an additional 3d view of the visualization while playing."

Water speakers
Dont ask me how I came about this but this is AMAZING! such a great visualization and only for under £30!!! Take a look for yourself, but I am probably going to buy some..I love how dynamic they are and they visualise the music in a fun and AFFORDABLE way!

The British Science association
What a day! I dont hear back from them for song long and then I get an email from them about a lecture tonight! So anyways, I went along and filmed the lecture. It was so interesting and along with another girl we both filmed from different angles to add some diversity to they youtube video that would be uploaded to document the lecture.
It was a great learning curve as I have never filmed live before, so it wasnt like I could just tell the man to re-do a section because he had his back to me!
I am waiting on the other girl to give me her footage so that I can edit the film.

Meeting with David
So we never had a meeting last week as well it was pitch so he got to see everything that I had done and planned and could ask questions after so there wasnt really much need. I havent really done much the past week as it was my 21st birthday on the 13th so I have had loads of family round and celebrations etc. But it doesnt mean my work load has lessened at all, it was probably good to have a wee break and I have had a lot of time to think about my project. Now I am all finally ready and raring to go!
This week I was talking to David about a suitable track. I dont want to rush into this as it plays a very important part in my final outcome. So we talked about songs and what could work etc so I will come back next week with hopefully a song after a lot of research or if not at least a shortlist of songs in which we can discuss next week.

Possible songs..
So I have been doing a ton of music listening the past few days, even listening to classicalFM... yes I know, it was research.. and here are some of my favorites that I thing have a nice textural and dynamic feel about them. The more I listen to songs the more I think that probably finding just an instrumental or the song without singing would be better than with.

My pitch
Well, another pitch over an done with! I think it went well, all the lecturers are really enthusiastic about my project that is really spurring me on.
You can look at my presentation here: http://prezi.com/sgfe9c0mydx9/amy-warnock-pitch-semester-2/
The aim of this pitch was to show my development from last semester to this semester. Since the end of semester 1, I have been working on developing my final outcome. I had touch upon it briefly in semester one but now it is time to fully develop my idea. From the presentation you can see that I want to expand my installation idea where I will deconstruct a song and then using the separate tvs visualize the separate parts of the song. The videos will move around the tvs as they increase in dynamics so visualize how the song is composed.
I know I have been adventurous with my final plan but I know that I can do it and I believe the final piece will set me apart from others and show my understanding of my project.
The lecturers asked me why I wanted to use an orchestral to which I replied, all my media tests songs where quite slow and not very dynamic and I feel a piece with complexity will not only give me something new to work with but I will be able to visualize the piece in a greater way.
They also asked about my pictures of the installation and the set up of the tv's. I explained that they would not be in that order and that it was just a place holder to show the scale of the installation and where it could be placed for the exposition.
The lecturers also asked me what do I want out of my final piece. To which I replied that I wanted to create something really engaging and exciting. I get bored really easily and to create a really engaging audio/visual experience is my ultimate goal.

1st- 3rd year pitch week
Had a few people missing today but Belinda took note of them. Over all everyone seemed to working on their projects well and getting into the swing of work after the Christmas holidays. Here is what they have been up to.
Jay- first year
For Visual Literacy Jay was well on his way in the research and development stage. I gave him some pointers on how he could further develop his ideas just to help visualize his thought process better and let the Lecture who is marking a better idea of his thought process.I also reminded him that if he needs help with modeling there is an after hours maya class. For Dynamic Communications, Jay mentioned that it was to be an interactive flash piece and that he was struggling with coding in flash. I suggested that he could speak to his lecture about an alternative animation to show how his interactive piece would look and he would be able to animation things that he could program in flash, giving him more of an imaginative outcome that being confined by what he could code. I did also say that learning flash is a good thing to at least attempt and that there are flash classes on at night so he could go get help.
Sophie- Second year
For Entertainment design sophie is that splash art , fonts, tittle screen, hud and a little concept development artist for her group. She didnt have much to show as she explained that she had to wait for the other artists to finish so that the art style was the same. She also mentioned that they have yet to meet up yet. I suggested that if they cant find a suitable time, speak to her lecturer and voice her concerns as if she leaves it too late her work might suffer I also mentioned that she would have to be careful that she doesnt leave herself enough time to do all her work if she waits for the other artist have finished theirs, which is why weekly meetings would help to keep the art style on track. For information design she has got her idea down to four possible themes, coffee, the underground and I cant remember the other two but I said that one of my friend used the london underground as a project and she should go look at her blog to look at how my friend displayed the information and to also look at the research. I also gave Sophie some links to research that I thought was appropriate to her coffee idea.
Lewis- Third year
I had a lot to talk to Lewis about. He was really inspired by my forth year project and he is doing something similar in his 3rd year. I gave him a link to my blog for him to go and have a look at the things I have been looking at and to help his research and development process and he said he was struggling to find resources for his project. I too really struggled at the beginning so I gave his some useful links and names to go away and research.
Madison- Third year
For her communications and interaction she was wanting to do a kind of Indiana Jones style map interactive piece, I suggested to her that the little princess also has a map style part in it and she should have a wider look into that moving map style. Her group seems to be working well together and their game idea is great and holds great potential. For Innovation and specialization she is looking into how lighting effects environments in games. One the the computer arts guy was doing something similar to that so I gave his name and told her she should go talk to him and look at what he was researching to see if that can help her own progression.
Dale- Third year
For Dale's communications and interaction he was going use a video and upload it to youtube and add on tags, because he hasnt used flash before. I suggested that he could use something similar in flash with buttons and you can find some really easy tutorials telling you how to use buttons. For innovation dev, he is looking into Colour association in logos and brands, so i suggested too that he looks into fonts as well. For his group game he is the graphic designers. He seems to be getting on well and he likes his group and the group staying friendly is probably thee most important thing in that module.

Bert Schutter
While doing some research into composition for tv installation I came across this one which I felt needed a bit more talking about. It is fabulous! Take a look at the video here:
When I first watched the video, there was just something so fascinating about it. I had never heard of Schutter but this installation was so captivating and interesting that I had to add it to my blog. I love how you see the still shape of windmill and the movement of it at the same time? If you get what I mean. I love how you can hear the swooshing sounds of the windmill as it moves round and round.

Meeting with david
Well this is my first meeting with my mentor as I have been really ill for about a week, the joys! but I met up with him as soon as possible. I talked about my idea for the installation and he was really excited about my plans. He also said that all the lecturers had been talking about me and my work and basically just to keep doing what I'm doing and dont burn out too soon as I think that is what most folk are worried that I have peeked too soon... gotta prove them wrong!

sonia falcone video installation
WOW this is amazing! I love the installation! The music and visual integration and how graceful it looks. I love how its not just filmed on a wall or something and its actually physically broken up slightly.
